Writing an essay often seems like a scary task to school students or students. Whether the essay is given as a homework at school, or perhaps written for a competition, many students often find the task of writing an essay unsolvable. Although writing an essay is quite a big task, there are many different ways a student can take to break a task into small pieces. Splitting an essay writing task into small steps is the easiest way to prepare a successful essay. There are seven steps to writing a successful essay:
1. Select a topic. The teacher can offer you the topic of the essay itself, or you may be given a choice: on what topic to write an essay. If you are given a topic, you should think about the type of essay you want to write. Should this be a general overview of the subject area or a specific analysis? If you are not given a topic, you get a little more work. However, this feature also gives you an advantage in choosing a topic that interests you. First define your goal. Is the purpose of your essay informing readers or is the main task of persuasion? Once you have determined the goal, you will need to do some research on topics that you find interesting. Think of your life. What are you interested in? Write down these topics. Finally, analyze the data of those. If your goal is to give information on a certain area, select a topic that you know well. 2. Prepare a diagram of your ideas. To write a successful essay, you need to streamline your thoughts. Write down on paper all your thoughts on this topic in the form of a diagram. This structure is the basis for your work. Scheme or diagram allows you to organize abstracts. So, in order to create a scheme, write your topic in the middle of the page. Now draw several lines from this topic (4-5), and write ideas at the end of these lines. From ideas, draw a few more lines and at the end write down any thoughts on these ideas. This approach will allow you to write a well-organized essay.
3. Write the main thesis of your essay. Now that you have chosen a topic and wrote out the main ideas on this topic, you should write the main thesis of your essay. The main thesis is one sentence that describes the key statement in the essay as accurately as possible and complete. When writing some essays as a study paper or as part of a standard exam, the main thesis in the introduction is required. Even if you do not have such requirements, it will be useful to clearly formulate the main thesis of the work. Usually the main thesis is placed near the end of the first paragraph, although there are no hard and fast rules. ⦁ Since the essay on obesity deals with an important topic, and you will write in a simple non-descriptive language, you can formulate the main point as follows: “Based on the analysis of research data, this essay will give recommendations on how to reduce obesity.” Such a thesis in a few words will explain to the reader what the task of the essay is. ⦁ In a holiday essay, this is not required. Since here the mood, the story and the description of something personal are more important, a straightforward phrase like “This essay describes in detail my vacation in Costa Rica” will sound strained and inappropriate.
4. The main part of the essay. The main part of the essay claims explains or describes your topic. Each basic idea that you wrote in a diagram or draft will become a separate section in the body of your essay. Each paragraph will have the same basic structure. Start by writing one of your main ideas as an introductory sentence. Then write each of your auxiliary ideas in a sentence format, but leave three or four lines between each point to go back and give detailed examples to argue your position. Fill in these spaces with relative information that will help link smaller ideas together.
5. Write an introduction. Now that you have written the general structure of your essay, you should write an introduction. The introduction should attract the attention of the reader and show what exactly your essay concentrates on. Start with information that will attract 100% attention of the reader. You can use shocking information, dialogue, history, quote. Whatever way you choose, make sure that it is related to your thesis, which will be included as the last sentence of your introduction.
6. Write a conclusion. The conclusion summarizes your general ideas, providing a final look at your topic. Your withdrawal should consist of three to five sentences.
7. Add the final touches. After writing your conclusion, you might think that you have completed your essay. This is not true. You should pay attention to all the small details. Check the order of your paragraphs. Your strongest arguments should be the first and last paragraphs inside the main part, and the rest should be in the middle. Also, make sure your paragraph order makes sense. If your essay describes a process, such as how to make a big chocolate cake, make sure your paragraphs go in the correct order. Make sure the order of the sentences is smooth and add phrases to help connect thoughts or ideas. Check your essay for grammar and punctuation errors.
